Sphinctomyrmex chariensis (Santschi)

Type location Chad (Sphinctomyrmex rufiventris stirps (subspecies) chariensis, Santschi (1915c: 245, male; raised to species by Brown, 1975); male only. Collected from Moyen-Chari, Fort Archambault - nearest modern location Mahimi, Chad (and not Central African Republic given in Bolton, 1995; if latitude and longitude in Wheeler, 1922, are correct); by Dr Decorse, 1904, 2 males .

Santschi's (1915c) description was - MALE, TL 4.5 mm; colour, head and thorax brown black, rest yellow brown. Pilosity as type (rufiventris) main difference being the more regular posterior convexity of the head. Ocelli smaller and separated by their own diameter (separation less in the type). Second segment of funiculus nore than twice as long as wide; following segments two and a half times as long. Sides of propodeum puncturate like the rest, but with several longitudinal striae near the edge of the declivity, that has similar transverse fine striae. Petiole node, less regularly rounded dorsally, with a feebly concave dorsum. Discoidal fringe brown.

Santschi (1930a: 50) gave a fresh description, with illustrations, this is at . The fresh specimens were from Mali (Soudan français), Senenkou, 250 km. by river de Koulouba (Andrieu). 3 males captured at a light. December 1928.
