WORKER - TL 3.2 mm; colour black; head, anterior tibiae and
peduncle of petiole red brown; mandibles, antenna and tarsi
yellow, leg joints yellow to red. Erect pilosity black long and
abundant on the gaster and head, less dense on the thorax, absent
on the appendages. Legs with a fine pale, translucent pubescence,
denser on the antennae. Head dull, finely and superficially
reticulate; similar but fainter sculpturation of the pronotum and
petiole scale, which are shinier. Mesonotum with irregular
longitudinal rugae. Propodeum and metasternum densely
reticulo-punctate and matt. Rest of petiole scale, appendages and
gaster smooth and shiny.
Head a short oval, about one-seventh longer than wide, rounded
behind the eyes. Clypeus convex and with a diffuse medial carina,
slightly truncated anteriorly. Mandibles smooth with apices apart
when closed, armed with 5 teeth. Postclypeal notch large and long;
frontal carinae and parallel longer than their distance apart.
Eyes quite large, situated at about the level of the posterior
third of the head, and in frontal view not reaching the sides of
the face. Scape exceeding the posterior margin of the face.
Alitrunk width about three-quarters that of head; pronotum as wide
as long; metanotal stomata raised; metanotal groove deep. Dorsum
of propodeum raised obliquely to rear, strongly concave between
the posterior angles which are in the form of truncated cones.
Petiole scale slightly higher than length of posterior peduncle;
the summit concave between two fine teeth or spines, these about
as long as their basal interval. Gaster large. Legs long.
Related to silvicola Arnold (from Mozambique) but that
has a darker head, brown legs, head matt with denser
sculpturation, whiter longer finer and more abundant pilosity; the
head is longer and ocelli bigger; metanotal groove also even more
pronounced but less obliquely raised at rear; petiole scale
without teeth. |
