1 Sternites with a fringe of moderately long hairs on the posterior margin; tergites with abundant semi-decumbent fine hairs; pygidium with quite narrow triangular lateral spines burmeisteri group
2 Sternites with longer, more abundant and longer hairs but without an obvious posterior fringe of hairs; tergites with even more abundant and longer hairs; pygidium with stronger, broader based lateral spines, in some cases these have apices which are at least bifurcate arcens group
3 Sternites with only sparse hairs and no obvious posterior fringe of hairs; tergites with quite abundant long hairs; pygidium with narrow based lateral spines, with a distinct downcurve sjoestedti group
4 Both sternites and tergites with sparse long hairs but quite distinctive very short widely spaced pilosity; pygidium with short, sharp and very distinctly down-turned lateral spines emery group
5 Both sternites and tergites with few semi-erect hairs and those are mostly short; pygidium with short lateral spines lamottei group
6 Both sternites and tergites with few semi-erect hairs but distinctive fringes of very short hairs, with the fringes on the posterior and lateral magins of the sternites; pygidium with moderately long sharp lateral spines kohli group
7 Both sternites and tergites with sparse long hairs but those hairs longer than in any of the other groups; pygidium with well developed but broad based lateral spines and, uniquely and median spine on the lower margin gerstaeckeri group
