Crematogaster (Atopogyne) mottazi Santschi

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server}Type location Ivory Coast (Santschi, 1928d: 67, worker & queen) collected at Grand Bassam, by H. Mottaz. Mentioned as being in the Crematogaster depressa group by Donisthorpe (1945b); worker and queen described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Santschi's (1928d) description is at {original description}, 11 workers and 2 queens.

{Crematogaster (Atopogyne) sp A} Crematogaster (Atopogyne) species A - Nigeria specimens. Apparently monomorphic TL 3.42 mm, HL 0.82, HW 0.81, SL 0.62, PW 0.44. Colour dark brown, shiny. Sculpturation of very fine striae, hardly noticeable on the alitrunk. Alitrunk profile rounded, mesonotal carina low, mesonotal groove hardly impressed. Propodeal spines very short or reduced to tubercles.

In Nigeria it nests in dead wood, branch ends and similar on trees, but uses little or no carton, rare on cocoa.

This appears very close to the description of Crematogaster mottazi or kasaiensis.
