Type location Kenya, at Kavirondo at nearly 5000 feet asl (Phyracaces vespula, Weber, 1949a: 5, illustrated antenna, worker; combination in Cerapachys by Brown, 1975: 24); junior synonym cooperi (Phyracaces cooperi, Arnold, 1915: 18, worker) from South Africa; worker only described .

Note the Arnold specimens were notably longer, TL 4.2-4,5 mm; than those described by Weber, TL 3.8 mm.

The nomenclatorial oddity is due to prior naming, on an earlier page, of Cerapachys cooperi by Arnold (1915: 14) and the reduction of that to a junior synonym of Cerapachys afer Forel (1907) by Brown ((1975: 22)
