Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) abjectus Santschi

maculatus species group
TL 8-10-12 mm plus; alitrunk profile convex in a smooth elongated curve, propodeal declivity not or poorly separable from dorsum, if the latter always much shorter than dorsum; petiole scale of major cuneiform, with convex anterior face and quite sharp dorsal margin; mostly bicoloured with alitrunk lighter and distinct light areas on gaster; dimorphic (?) minors with head narrowed posteriorly but not dramatically so and without any "neck".

Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) abjectus Santschi

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Angola (Camponotus (M.) maculatus st. abjectus n. st., Santschi, 1937d: 242, illustrated, soldier & worker); raised to species by Baroni Urbani (1972: 131); soldier and worker known (see Bolton, 1995) .

Santschi's (1937d) description is at {original description}. Baroni Urbani (1972) in raising it to a full species noted only that it was close to C. pictiventris Mayr - this new status of pictiventris has passed unnoticed by Bolton (1995).

As subspecies abjectus Santschi, small and speckled with yellow, recorded from Guinea, by Bernard (1952). It was found, 3 queens and numerous workers, from the savanna at Ziéla and Kéoulenta, crests of Nion (at 1300 m) and Tô (at 1600 m).
