WORKER - TL 3.9-4.3 mm; the only genus member without flattened hairs, having no more than moderately abundant stout hairs on the dorsal surfaces; colour dark reddish-brown.

Type specimens from Baudua, Ghana, from a rotten stump, holotype and 3 paratype workers (D. Leston, 27.viii.1969) (Bolton, 1981a), pictured in Hölldobler & Wilson (1990, page 101).

A single specimen from Nigeria, was collected at CRIN (B. Bolton, 20.vi.1969) from a rotten log. Other findings come from Ivory Coast, a single queen, from rain forest litter at Divo (L. Brader, 18.iii.1963); and Gabon.
