Anoplolepis (Zealleyella) steingroeveri (Forel)
Type locality Namibia (Plagiolepis steingroeveri,
Forel, 1894b: 72, worker; Emery, 1895h: 44, queen, from Gabon;
Arnold, 1922: 590, queen & male; in Zealleyella
Santschi, 1926a: 14); junior synonym braunsi (Plagiolepis,
Forel 1913a: 141, worker; synonymy by Prinz, 1982: 217) from South
Africa; subspecies gertrudae (as Plagiolepis,
Forel, 1900b: 77, worker) from Reunion I., and parsonsi
(Santschi, 1937g: 83, worker) from South Africa; all forms
described; in subgenus Zealleyella (Bolton, 1995). Prins
(1982) provided a full modern description plus excellent
illustrations of all stages; a reduced version of his drawing of
the major worker is shown below left. The worker stage is
polymorphic, with the TL 2.9-8.0 mm
.
