Our semi-annual open house at John Burroughs’s rustic cabin retreat in West Park, New York was a spectacular success! It was a gorgeous sunny day. Tours of the Cabin started at 11:00 AM and went to 4:00 PM. Over 100 participants enjoyed cabin tours by Patrick McDonough and Ev Rifenberg, a Burroughs Reading by Jeff Walker and a description of our next BIG project, The Slabsides Trail Restoration Project by Eddie Walsh/Chief Trail Designer, Tahawus Trails LLC. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with this project this summer. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us.
Others explored the woods, ponds and wildlife, sometimes on hands and knees!
Sightings included Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, Baltimore Orioles, Lady Slipper Orchids, Spring Peepers, Milk and Black Rat Snakes (short video by Ethan), dragonflies of many shapes and sizes and friendly millipeds.
