Help Finish the Trails CampaignTrail Banner

We are very grateful to our donors who gave generous financial support to the trails project.  As you know, the project began with a $50,000 matching grant from New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.  While that grant covered the design and most of  the building of the trails, much of the construction was undertaken by volunteers who contributed 1,200 hours, valued at over $10,000!

Raising the required match benefited greatly from the generous lead gift of our good friend and former board member David Lane.  Now we need your help to raise the remaining $4,500 to pay for the Trail Guide and the impressive stone steps of the South Pond Trail.  To show our appreciation, donors of $100 or more will receive a keepsake trail marker, similar to those now marking the trails, with the words "Slabsides, John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary" marked within the outline of the cabin.

To those who donate at the level of $1,000 or more, we will express our thanks with an original copy of the autographed limited edition Slabsides Book of John Burroughs, published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1931, ten years after the death of Burroughs.  The book is comprised of ten essays written by friends of John Burroughs, including Theodore Roosevelt (son of the president), Frank Chapman, Hamlin Garland, and Julian Burroughs.  Each essay in this limited edition of one hundred books is autographed by the author.  The first donor at this level will receive volume #85, from the collection of the Burroughs family.

The trails are bringing new life to the John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary. The 200 acres and wonderful new trails surrounding Slabsides inspire hikers, runners, birders, artists, writer and romancers to discover, and rediscover, this beautiful land.  We ask for your help to enable more nature enthusiasts to enjoy the land that inspired the writings of John Burroughs.  Please give today to help us complete the campaign.  Your gift may be sent to The John Burroughs Association, 15 West 77th St, New York, NY 10024, payable to the John Burroughs Association.  Email with questions, or to discuss your gift.

The John Burroughs Association is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all contributions are tax-deductable to the full extent of the law.
