SHIPPING EQUIPMENT

Back to Lab Facilities

The AMCC provides researchers with dry-shippers allowing control-rate freezing type of sample collecting in the field, as well as transfer from museum to museum, or donor to museum without ever thawing the specimens.

To know more about entering a request for the use of a dryshipper, please consult the Dryshipper request page and Use of Equipment Protocol

Cryo-shipper used by the AMCC With shipping bin

Airways companies do not allow the loading of liquid nitrogen on their planes for safety reason, thus making flash-freezing or control rate freezing in the field almost pointless if you cannot ship your specimens frozen. Because the dry shippers uses a vapor phaze type freezing process and contains no more liquid, they are accepted on planes, thus making it is now possible to ship your specimens frozen and have them arrive to destination frozen!

The design of the dry-shipper is a double vacuum wall (E, F), which absorbs the liquid nitrogen. What virtually remains and cools off the shipper is vapor, similarly to how vapor-phase freezers work. A dry-shipper will remain cold at -150o C for 3 weeks.

A. Lightweight aluminum design reduces shipping costs

B. All models come with locking tab for shipments

C. Neck Tube- High strength neck tube reduces liquid nitrogen loss

D. Advanced Chemical Vacuum Retention System provides superior vacuum performance for the life of the product

E. Superior hydrophobic absorbent- repels moisture and humidity while maintaining a -150°C chamber environment

F. Insulation

The dry-shippers can be loaded with different type of containers, depending on their size. The small shippers will typically hold vials on cryo-canes, while the larger shippers will hold full boxes of vials or blood bags or any other containers.

Dry-shipper Logger

3 of the AMCC shippers are outfitted with a lid containing a dry-shipper log which monitors the internal temperature of the shippers at all time during its shipment. The data logger is also used for quality control before and after shipment.

IATA compliance

The AMCC also has IATA compliant shipper for infectious material
