DRY LAB

Back to Lab Facilities

The Dry lab part of the AMCC facilities houses the lab's computers work stations on which the AMCC staff accessions the samples in the database.

Currently, the AMCC has 5 work stations and 2 laptops.

The AMCC also has the capacities to accession specimen in the database in any room of the facilities through Airport technology on Macintosh iBooks. Not only does this allow the staff to accession the specimen nearer the vat room, it also allows for easy, fast and reliable identification of samples pulled out of the vat through scanning their barcode while still standing near the vat, thus preventing any transcription or reading errors.

The Bio-Safety Cabinet

The AMCC owns 2 bio-safety cabinets making the facilities a bio-safety II lab. Although the AMCC does not expect having to deal with any dangerous material, any wild animal tissues entering the lab could potentially be more or less infectious. Working on them in the bio-safety cabinets allows protection of both the AMCC curatorial assistants as well as protection of contamination at the sample level.

To know more about entering a request to use the biosafety cabinet, please consult the Use of Equipment Protocol
